I have a master bedroom design reveal for you today, and it might look familiar… We featured this project in our blog post on creative design boards, way back when it was still in its conceptual phase. (Okay, it was only a few months back, but hasn’t this year felt like a lifetime??)
Our clients reached out to us about updating the entire first floor of their Narragansett, RI home, starting with the master bedroom. They dreamed of having a space where they could slow down, relax, and feel refreshed for the next day.
With their home situated near the ocean and boasting a poolside backyard, we knew that an indoor oasis would be the perfect design solution for them. We started with the master bedroom…
Master Bedroom Design Goals
True to our Vibrant Coastal aesthetic, our clients desired a clean and sophisticated design for relaxing and bright color for a pop of freshness.
They requested all new furniture, some extra space for storage, and a sleeping place for their furriest family members, their two adorable dogs.
Space Plan
Once we presented the space plan and our clients approved it, we moved to the design concept…
Master Bedroom Design Concept: Vibrant Coastal Oasis
With their coastal location, blues were an obvious choice for these clients. Then we fell in love with this fabric from Quadrille…
LES INDIENNES. One thing led to another (as it does in design), and soon we had created an entire Design Concept around this fun and classy pattern!
This concept is a perfect example of the Vibrant Coastal aesthetic! Crisp blues and whites keep this space feeling airy, while the darker blue feels grounded and masculine. We chose a near-coral shade of pink for a touch of femininity, warmth, and balance.
We also proposed a built-in concept that would offer some much-needed storage and hide their TV. The perfect touch for style and for keeping the room feeling like an oasis. Our original concept included upholstered panels to make a dramatic statement, but we ultimately landed on classic, reeded doors to let the other patterns in the room shine.
Our clients were thrilled with both design concepts and gave us the green light to bring it to life….
Master Bedroom Design Reveal
Ahhh… you can really take a deep, relaxing breath in here, right? Blues usher in thoughts of the sea, while grasscloth wallpaper and the natural chandelier and nightstands create an airy, easy feel.
We custom designed this statement piece of a bed in a delightfully rich shade of sapphire. Our clients’ Sleep Number bed has a higher-than-usual frame, so the height of the side boards and foot boards had to be customized to cover the bed base.
In an otherwise light-colored room, the deep tones of sapphire not only ground the room — they might just contribute to a good night’s sleep! (Deep blues and greens are considered restful and restorative.)
And here’s another custom-designed element…
We designed this built-in with sliding doors, executed beautifully by Rome Point Woodworking. Reeded doors give a high level of detail, and the scale of the chunky reeding is simply gorgeous. It fits perfectly with the coastal, natural vibe of the room and is a treat to look at closed…
…or open!
Here’s a closer look at the Les Indiennes fabric, which we incorporated into decorative pillows. A smaller cheetah pattern adds a wild touch, and of course, no room is complete without fun accessories. We kept it fairly simple using books with vibrant spines (you can find several of these in our Shop!), a decorative vase, and vibrant coral lamp.
Last but not least, the space we promised our clients’ lovable dogs. We designed two dog beds with sun safe, performance fabric (no fading in the window) and Tempur-Pedic inserts. Not a bad life, right??
And… just because I can’t resist sharing this equally safari-esque space, here’s the powder room we designed in tandem.
Whereas blue was the master bedroom’s base color and coral was the accent, here, we’ve flipped the design on its head. A backdrop of leafy coral palms enjoys a cool coastal breeze with punches of blue!
