A pool house is so much more than a place to store floaties and towels. It’s an oasis made for lounging on fluffy couches after a sun-filled afternoon, enjoying cocktails with friends, and washing up without bringing wet bathing suits into the house – which is exactly how we’re designing them for our clients!
Now that summer has officially kicked off, it’s a great time to share some inspiration from a couple of our in-progress projects that each have a pool house on the property. Despite both of the homes being in coastal locations, the overall aesthetic of each residence is quite different.
The Bellevue Project | Newport, Rhode Island
Project Partners: Cordtsen Design Architecture & J2 Construct
This expansive home in Newport has historic ties to one of the Bellevue mansions, and through an extensive renovation of the main house, and the addition of two other structures (a guest house and pool house), this tired property is being transformed into a casual and kid-friendly oasis for a family of five to relax an unwind during the summer months.
Through a primarily neutral color palette with splashes of contrast and texture, the overall aesthetic for this home is serene, warm and inviting. This vibe spills over into the pool house, where finishes, fixtures and furnishings coordinate with the rest of the home.
Pool House Features:
- Nearly complete kitchen with a large island and bar seating for seven
- A loft with a full bed
- Back to back indoor/outdoor showers
While texture and contrast takes the place of bold color in this project, our design selections in include coastal inspired art and local maps, matte black finishes, crisp white shiplap walls and custom furnishings in performance fabrics for a cool and casual beachy feel.
The Narragansett Pier Project | Narragansett, Rhode Island
Project Partners: Gail Hallock Architect & Lawrence Builders
This new build home in the heart of Narragansett Pier will be a summer escape for a full house of seven, and is set to be complete this fall. Throughout both the main house and the pool house, coastal motifs and bright colors fill the space, accompanied by classic silhouettes and timeless details.
With a focus on durability, functionality and bright coastal color, our design selections are not only family friendly, but fun and sophisticated – the perfect combination for a sweet summer escape!
Pool House Features:
- Full bathroom with attached outdoor shower
- Casual seating space with a sleeper sofa
- Wet bar with beverage fridge
- A locker wall as a storage solution for pool-goers
Our design selections for this charming pool house include a custom sleeper sofa, comfy swivel chairs, geometric tile, and polished nickel finishes. Spilling over from the main house, a color palette of crisp blue, sunny yellow, and warm neutrals lends to the casual coastal vibe.
Punchy patterns, performance fabrics, and natural materials set the stage for a livable and vibrant space, as seen through the material selections below.
Ready for Relaxation
While both of these pool house concepts are aesthetically different, they’re both perfect for relaxing on a hot summer day after a swim in the pool. Like any small space, a pool house is a great opportunity to have some fun and dip your toes into design elements that might be a bit out of your comfort zone.
So now that we’ve got you daydreaming about a pool house, leave a comment to share which one aligns best with your style! Happy Summer!
